A new apparition on the firmament ofDutch black metal, Nusquama offers a clear and purposefulperformance on their first effort. The bands name is derived fromLatin and was initially used by Thomas More to refer to thenecessity and impossibility of a hopeful alternative. Furtherthematic inspiration is drawn from the pre-romantic poetry ofElizabeth Maria Post. Nusquama delivers a style of black metal thatwill be evident to those who are familiar with the musicians makingup the band: N. and S. from Laster and Northward provide bass andguitar melodies, while M. of Fluisteraars delivers the foundationaldrum patterns. Finally, T. and O. from Turia complete the line-upwith vocals and guitars respectively. Written over a two-yearperiod, and recorded in September of 2018 in a 19th-century coachhouse, the six songs making up this record will sound at once likea convergence of the musicians other projects while seeking outuncharted paths in unforeseen ways. Moving between pridefulstoicism and venomous rage, longing affirmation, and vitriolicdespair. There s a melancholic sometimes almost resigned feelingebbing and flowing throughout the songs, befitting of the storybehind the Nusquama name.
