ABOUT THE ARTIST

Cidália Moreira (Olhão, 1944) is a Portuguese actress and fadista, also known as the "gypsy fadista".

Born in bad years to Europe, she soon took on her passion for singing and dancing and showed it at her school parties, where she excelled. At the age of 7, she becomes the lead singer of a ballet animation ensemble, where she stays until 14 years old. Her family, closely linked to the Flemish, never denied her fado, and it was in the patuscadas that her father, right cousin of Casimiro Ramos, took her, where he sang for more public.

Already in 1973, year of some excitement, leaves for Lisbon and is in the restaurant Viela, Rua das Taipas, which debuts professionally. He was part of the cast of the house at that time, which included Beatriz Ferreira, Beatriz da Conceição and Berta Cardoso. Cidália stood out for her claw and singing surroundings, as well as for her role play. Morena, very long-haired, soon called her "The Gypsy of Fado". In the same decade, 1979 Cidália set off on a tour in Germany, where, in a romantic castle on the outskirts of Hamburg, she was very successful.

Already at that time begins an intense record production, recording several EP and LP discs. It is then undertaken, at the invitation of several foreign institutions, on tours that took her to France, Spain, South Africa, the USA and Canada. It was also successful in Brazil, where it remained four years.

She is later invited to perform at the magazine theater, standing out in magazines such as Cá Vamos Singing and Laughing, Ora Balls P´ró Pagode and Força, Força Comrade Zé. At Teatro ABC sings, in one of these magazines, one of his greatest hits Lisboa meu amor, which was never recorded on disc. Wrong Fado was also one of his great successes. Odyssey at the Park 2005 was his last magazine at the Maria Vitória Theater. In the coming weeks, he will sign an exclusive contract with SIC where he will be part of the fixed cast of this channel's new Portuguese soap opera, Beijo à Chuva.
