2023 re-issue on black vinyl

Legendary, yet roughly produced live album. The gig featuredheavy atmospheric effects such as severed pig heads impaled onwooden spikes. The band’s clothes were decayed and soiled. Piecesof rotting meat were thrown into the audience and given to people.Dead Ravens were placed in bags so band members could continuallysmell decay and death. Dead also was noted on slicing himself openduring the show. The band arrived in Leipzig with all instrumentsby train. This live album is the prime example of the true Mayhemin their heyday. Although they never recorded a studio album withthe classic lineup, this live release, albeit very rough, shows thegreatness of Mayhem’s line-up during the early ’90s. The albumcontains nine tracks of classic Mayhem, everything from thebeginning (Pure Fucking Armageddon, Deathcrush) up to what wouldlater become De Mysteriis classics (Funeral Fog, Freezing Moon).Dead’s vocals are second-to-none in terms of setting the mood forthe music. His painful growls, combined with the rough atmosphereof the straight, raw live recording (no post-production or noiseediting here), make this an amazing black metal listen. It isn’tbeautifully polished, it’s like a live black metal album should be:raw and exactly as it was heard live. Live in Leipzig is an amazingbootleg turned live black metal album. If this album were polished,with Dead’s vocals, it would be the ultimate Mayhem release. On itsown it still stands as a raw black classic.
