A fresh death metal band from Brazil that plays on the thrashierend of the spectrum, Sepulchral Whore indulges in Hell's irreverentdepravity in "Everlasting Morbid Delights" as it pays homage to theearly progenitors of this most obscene style. Nowhere is Death sonear as in "Horrifying The Weak", with what sounds like a slowerversion of the "Born Dead" riff from "Leprosy", or "In Slumber TheySuccumb", where the band beats the unforgiving snare into amechanical mechanism before setting off some hair-raising andoriginal soloing that gives little nods to the guitar gods ofyesteryear. The very Morbid Angel sounding opening in "MaliciousConflagration", produced just like the bassy and rolling guitars in"Covenant", becomes a raw and open echo across an imposing hall andbegins a vocal delivery that sounds like it's giving a speech to anunholy army about its latest ambition for conquest. In a heavilyaccented and echoing voice the lyrics do get a little awkward attimes while attempting to finish a lyric after the sound hasalready outrun what was written down, like when vocalist,Necrospinal, says "let's breathe antagonism". Despite these minorwonky moments, the great chanting of "no mythical devotion, denythe holy whore, spreading damnation, we set hellfire at this torch"is very engaging and uplifts this thrashier aspect of SepulchralWhore's death metal. The only time that Sepulchral Whore turns downits hellacious hedonism is in the instrumental "Rotten Wings OfCreation" where the airy sound of Iron Maiden's "The Clansman"meets a medieval Iberian theme to create a sinister tone within anapocalyptic soundscape. It's easy to hear the Iron Maiden bassflourishes rising to the top of this song as this diversion fromthe band's norm seems to lay some groundwork for an engrossingevolution in this band's future. The personality expressed through"Everlasting Morbid Delights", and its almost giddy reach toprofane anything presenting propriety, makes this an invigoratingand refreshing first EP from a band with great potential and solidpreparation that seems to take its time getting things right beforeheading into the studio. Having started in 2015 and only justreleasing its first album in May of 2017, Sepulchral Whore seemsset to secure a solid spot in many a death metal fan's musicrotation and to keep the old school sound alive and well.
