Rockslaget was the biggest local music competition inGothenburg, Sweden. It was supposed to have been a small musicalcontest but more than 120 bands were entering every year. The eventwas founded by Peter Ohlsson on ABF where he wanted to give thelocal acts a chance to play live on a professional stage, withprofessional sound and light in front of a large audience. 6 of theapprox 120 bands were sorted out and those went on the grand finalat the Lisebergshallen. After a few years the event changed name to‘Goteborgstalangen’ as the event had grown and the contest were somuch more than just rock. Many Gothenburg metal acts have startedtheir careers at this competition like Hammerfall, DarkTranquility, Road Ratt, Freak Kitchen, Million etc. At 4 occasionsthe 6 bands that got to the final also got a chance to record twoof their tracks for a local compilation album bearing the same nameas the event. This happened at the 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1994finals. This is one of those rare compilation albums that only weresold locally. On the 1990 album you’ll find the hard rock acts RoadRatt, Snappy Cacky, Million, Big Break and Ministrels Of Marble.All tracks are exclusive and none of the Road Ratt or Milliontracks was released on their later albums.
