A four-piece powerhouse, from the depths of the Swedish hardcoreunderground, God Mother has been a rising force since its inceptionin 2012. Their debut, Maktbehov, was easily one of metal’s mostexciting new releases in 2015, making many of the year’s top listsincluding Loudwire, Blunt Mag, Metal Injection, and was hailed byPitchfork as “an asteroid crash of an album that renders most ofits competition extinct. God Mother spliced together PigDestroyer’s sludgy grind, Converge’s melodramatic hardcore, andespecially the Dillinger Escape Plan’s freewheeling math rock. Manygroups would buckle under the pressure of such an explosivejuggling act, but not God Mother. They toggle between bone-crushingbarnstormers and slow-churned stoner metal with remarkabletechnical proficiency.
