Secrets Of The Moon were called the chameleons of black metal inGerman Rock Hard magazine due to their style changes with everyalbum. Although their style changed, Thrawn, who is one of theirmain songwriters, still has the same influences as when he startedmaking music, like 1990s Swedish death metal. Their debut,Stronghold Of The Inviolables, was black metal while their secondalbum Carved In Stigmata Wounds, featuring fast as well as slow,doom metal-like passages with keyboards, was compared to Samael.Some parts on Privilegivm, which is more experimental andatmospheric and less accessible, are close to doom metal and theirfifth album Seven Bells is mostly in mid-tempo and reminiscent ofThomas Gabriel Fischer’s music, who aided the band on therecording. This material features tracks from a studio session foran unfinished album called Thelema Rising and were recorded back in2001, around the time of the recording of their debut. When askedto sum up Secrets of the Moon’s music and what their music is allabout, Thrawn replied: Darkness and death and LSK (also in Antaeus)added the word experimentation.
