Through their 2015 album Laguz, Ancient Rites marks a newchapter in the bands hitory. As always, each album sounds differentfrom the other. Yt all works are recognisable Ancient Rites,displaying an own style and authenticity. Laguz in Ancient ritestradition avoids lyrical and musical cliches and it sounds verymuch like the merging of a theatrical score and a black metalalbum, and it contains a great deal of narrative vocal fromfrontman Gunther Theys. In addition, Eric Sprooten plays severalupon several immeasurable melody lines combined with Domingo Smetssynths, which almost make me think I´m listening to a Bal-Sagothrecord at times. Ancient Rites have captured both the valor andspirit of battle within such a legendary offering as this. It´sdoubtful that you´ll hear anything quite as glorious this year.Charge forth into battle!
