While some death metal bands constantly try to redefine theirmusic with various (and often completely unnecessary) stylisticexperiments, Malevolent Creation have always been true to theold-school and brutal ways of pure metal annihilation. In 2007original vocalist Bret Hoffman returned to Malevolent Creation forthe Doomsday X album. With Hoffman back, the band went through theold Malevolent archives and found this live recording made at TheWhisky A Go Go back in 1999 with the band´s original line-up ofHoffman, guitarists Rob Barrett and Phil Fasciana, bassist GordySimms and drummer Dave Culross. Malevolent Creation was touring insupport of 1998´s The Fine Art Of Murder when this show wasrecorded, and the set list features five tracks from that album.Their back catalogue is also well represented, as they play songsfrom 1991´s The Ten Commandments, 1992´s Retribution, 1995´sEternal and 1996´s Joe Black. The sound quality on the album isdecent. Live death metal shows don´t usually have crisp, crystalclear sound, and you wouldn´t want that anyway. Live At The WhiskyA Go Go is raw and sometimes a little muddy, but it captures thepower and intensity of Malevolent Creation very well.
