Metalucifer was formed in 1995 inKuwana (Japan), as a project of Gezol (here as Gezolucifer alsofrontman of the legendary band Sabbat). Metalucifers music verytraditional and very emotional heavy metal inspired by Nwobhm and80s euro metal in general. The band name was taken from the Sabbattrack ‘Metalucifer And Evilucifer’ (from ‘Evoke’), and the meaningis ‘King In Heavy Metal Hell’. Metalucifers band mascot thatappears on most Metalucifer covers are Neal Tanaka one of theworlds most famous heavy metal collectors. Their first release camein 1996 with the 6-track mini album ‘Heavy Metal Hunter’ and theband released their first full length album ‘Heavy Metal Drill’ thesame year. This album are a testament both to its brilliance andits timelessness. Although not original by any standard, thequality of the music which this Japanses trio, which featurescurrent and former members of Sabbat, pen is of such compellingquality that any similarities to classic, pioneering bands such asIron Maiden, Manowar or Helloween are instantly forgiven. With songtitles and lyrics as firmly focused on pure metal as the riffs anddrums are, the first three songs all start with ‘Heavy Metal’ andthe seventh is simply entitled ‘Headbanging’, this becomes a 50minute journey into the melodic, distortion filled world of classicheavy metal — and what a journey it is. Solos are what axemen’sdreams and egos are made out of, vocals are as infectious as theyare balls out, and quite simply every feature of a great, classic,heavy metal album is present. The band even successfully toy withkeyboards on their ‘Metalucifer’ instrumental track. When the oldboys can no longer match themselves, it is up to others to remindthem of the greatness of heavy metal.
